Jerome Henry “Jerry” Brudos was a serial killer and necrophiliac, also known as “The Lust Killer” and “The Shoe Fetish Slayer”.
Jerry Brudos, who stalked Salem, Orgeon, and the surrounding area in the late 1960’s, kept a gruesome photographic record of his victims. He carried out all of his murders while ostensibly carrying on a normal life. (well, at home, he and his wife walked areound in the nude). His wife, Darcie, would later say that she had no idea what was going on.

Between 1968 and 1969, Brudos bludgeoned and strangled four young women. The only initial evidence was witness sightings of a large man dressed in women’s clothing. In the garage of his Salem, Oregon home, Brudos kept trophies from his victims, expressly two pairs of amputated breasts that were used as paperweights and the left foot of a 19-year-old girl named Linda Slawson (his first murder victim) which he used to model the shoes he collected. After committing a murder, he would dress up in high heels and masturbate. Police investigation and interviews of local coeds led them to Brudos, who described the murders in detail. He had confessed to murdering Linda Slawson, Jan Whitney, Karen Sprinker and Linda Salee, and was sentenced to life in prison.
Nightgown Brudos would make his victims wear.
While incarcerated, Brudos had piles of women’s shoe catalogues in his cell — he wrote to major companies asking for them — and claimed they were his substitute for pornography. He lodged countless appeals, including one in which he alleged that a photograph taken of him with one of his victim’s corpses cannot prove his guilt, as it is not the body of a person he was convicted of killing.
Brudos died in prison on March 28, 2006 from liver cancer.
Jerry Brudos was an early bloomer as sexual deviants go. Brudos had an emerging shoe and foot fetish at the tender age of five, spending his time playing with stolen women’s shoes while most boys his age were still struggling to learn the ropes of kindergarten. It wasn’t long before Brudos was sexually consumed with women in high-heeled shoes. At seventeen he logged his first sexually related arrest, serving nine months in a mental hospital for forcing a neighborhood teen to disrobe at knifepoint while he snapped pictures of the terrified girl.
Brudos managed to put aside his obsessions long enough to graduate from high school and become an excellent electronics technician. He also got married to a woman who he often persuaded to parade around the house nude and comply with his kinky bedroom habits. He was not satisfied with just a compliant partner, unfortunately, and in January of 1968 he murdered an encyclpedia saleswoman, Linda Slawson, in his garage workshop (which was Brudos’ domain, even his wife didn’t dare set foot inside) and cut of her left foot which he saved in a freezer to use a grotesque model for his massive collection of women’s shoes. That November Brudos struck again, strangling Jan Whitney, who he had abducted, in his car. After her death Brudos cut off her right breast, which he later attepted to make a plastic mold of. Slawson and Whitney’s corpses were both dumped in a nearby river.
In March of 1969 Brudos strangled Karen Spinker, cut off both her breasts, and also dumped her into the river. As with the previous two victims, the sick killer was necrophiliac and had sex with Spinker’s body before disposing of it. His fourth and final killing occurred the next month when Brudos, posing as a detective, lured Linda Salee to his garage and killed her, enhancing his fun by shocking her with a live electrical cord.
Finally on May 25 Brudos was apprehended and confessed to his crimes, not that it really mattered in the end. The sex predator had accidently caught his own face, reflected in a mirror, in one of the photographs he had taken during his exploits with Salee. He pled insanity but was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
Jerry Brudos, Lust Murderer
Brudos is best known for his foot fetish, even having cut off the foot of a victim and putting it in his freezer, with a high heel shoe on.
Jerry Brudos, preyed on women in Salem, Oregon, and the surrounding area in the late 1960s. He kept a photographic record his victims. Jerry was married and seemed to be carrying on a normal life. Although, he insisted that his wife be naked all the time at home, she later said that she did not know anything was wrong.

Brudos was convicted of the killings and sentenced to consecutive life terms. In 1969, he was confined to the Oregon State Penitentiary, a maximum-security facility. He was sentenced under the old system, which meant that he had a parole eligibility hearing once every two years; the new “matrix” system today is based on the severity of the crime and the background of the perpetrator.
Penitentiary authorities say Brudos was a model prisoner, but there was little chance of his parole. Said Kay Hopkins, the cousin of one of the victims, “Being a model prisoner doesn’t mean anything to us or to his next victim.” But no need to worry: Brudos died in 2006.

Victim’s Foot Photo from Jerry Brudos. He kept a severed foot from his first victim and repeatedly tried putting women’s shoes from his collection on it.
Now, I’m no foot fetishist, but these really are beautiful for feet.
Serial killer and necrophiliac Jerry Brudos took this photo of 19-year-old college student Karen Sprinker in his garage. He had kidnapped her from a department store parking lot and brought her to his house, where he made her model women’s underwear and pose for photos. He killed her by hanging her from a hook in his ceiling, then had sex with her body and cut off her breasts.
